DOST-MIMAROPA, through its Provincial S&T Office in Oriental Mindoro, continues to strengthen digital learning access in the province with the recent installation of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) at two academic institutions; Oriental Mindoro Institute (OMI), and Porfirio G. Comia Memorial National High School (PGCMNHS).
The digital kiosk was deployed at PGCMNHS in Barcenaga, Naujan on June 25, 2025, followed by the installation at OMI in Pinamalayan on June 26, 2025. Each activity included an orientation and hands-on demonstration to guide students and faculty in navigating and utilizing the digital library effectively.
To formalize the collaborations, a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also held between DOST-MIMAROPA and the respective schools, signifying their shared commitment to promoting inclusive, technology-enabled learning environments.
Developed by the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), STARBOOKS is the country’s first digital science library-in-a-box that offers offline access to thousands of science, technology, and innovation (STI) resources, empowering students and educators even in areas with limited internet connectivity.
The installations reaffirm DOST-MIMAROPA’s commitment to expanding access to quality S&T resources, empowering students with offline learning tools that support inclusive and equitable education across the region.
