The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas deployed the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) at Calaca City Global College (CCGC), giving students offline access to thousands of science and technology resources, on September 5, 2025.

STARBOOKS, developed by the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), is a digital library that contains thousands of science and technology resources. It provides access to information even without an internet connection and aims to inspire students to engage in research, innovation, and scientific learning.

To maximize the use of STARBOOKS, DOST-Batangas conducted an orientation and training session for teachers. The session demonstrated how STARBOOKS can be used as a supplementary resource for academic and research purposes, highlighting its features, content, and potential to support classroom instruction.

A separate site administrator training equipped the school’s librarian and designated staff with skills to manage and maintain the kiosk. They were trained on data registration, navigation of articles, use of interactive math and science games, and the admin module for user assistance, file transmittal, feedback review, and content updates.

Mr. Cedric L. Rodriguez, STARBOOKS coordinator of DOST-Batangas, facilitated the deployment and training. He emphasized the role of STARBOOKS in making science and technology information accessible to students and in encouraging independent learning.
