The Department of Science and Technology Region 02, together with the DOSTโScience and Technology Information Institute and BPI Foundation, turned over three STARBOOKS-ready computer units with routers and pods to three public schools in Cagayan Valley on December 9, 2025.
The beneficiary schools are Napo-Tuyak National High School (Nueva Vizcaya), Calayan National High School (Cagayan), and Antagan National High School (Isabela). Through this support, the schools will now have access to STARBOOKS, a digital library that offers free and user-friendly science, technology, and Kโ12 learning materials. The initiative aims to help students in remote areas by giving them more tools to learn and explore.
During the program, Dr. Laila A. Taguinod, DOST 02 Assistant Regional Director, delivered the welcome message. This was followed by special messages from Ms. Melanie P. Magbuhos, Program Manager of BPI Foundation. Their messages emphasized the importance of bringing digital learning resources closer to students who have limited access.
The ceremony featured the signing of the Deed of Donation and a ceremonial photo session to mark the partnership. Representatives from the beneficiary schools (Adriana Pumahing of Napo-Tuyak NHS, Limuel Duerme of Calayan National High School, and Maribon J. Bagunu of Antagan NHS) shared their appreciation through short acceptance messages.
The event closed with a message from Ms. Rowena A. Guzman, Science Research Specialist II. This was followed by a STARBOOKS User Training and Orientation led by Reynaldo A. Morales Jr., Science Research Analyst, who guided the participants on how to use STARBOOKS effectively and integrate it into learning sessions.
Through this joint effort, DOST Region 02, DOST-STII, and BPI Foundation continue to support learners by widening access to digital knowledge and strengthening learning opportunities in the region.
